Keynote presentations at the 7th International Conference on Spatial data Quality (ISSDQ 2011)
The production of spatial and geographical data has increased exponentially in the last years, as a consequence of the great development in technologies such as GPS (Global Positioning System), Geographic Information Systems and the collection of images from the Earth surface by sensors installed in artificial satellites. There are many procedures to extract information from the collected data and to process it to a great variety of aims. However, the precision and accuracy of the information obtained depends on the methodologies used to create it. The quality of the obtained data has always been important. However, with the increasing use of spatial information in digital format, enabling its processing by many types of users, as well as its use in applications that often have important consequences in the society, makes the topic of spatial data quality an increasingly actual and fundamental aspect of spatial data.
